Starting with the April billing, sewer rates will be increasing by 5%. The sewer bills will go up from $52.25 to $54.86 and the new combined water/sewer base rate will go from $161.40 to $164.01.

DownloadPublic Works oversees 305 water connections within a system that was installed in 1958. The Town's water reservoir holds 200,000 gallons. To look up test results on the Department of Health website, enter South Cle Elum's Water System ID: 816003.
The Town's sewer system was installed in 1969 on the south side of the Yakima River. The system runs to the Town's recently upgraded Lift Station and is then pumped to the Regional Sewer Plant for treatment.
The Superintendent works closely with the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board and Kittitas County Public Works to keep the Town's streets well maintained.
The Town is in need of replacing all water mains and hydrants throughout town. The water system was installed in 1957 with a lifespan of 40 years, putting the system 27 years past the life expectancy.
Water Main Details: The Town has approximately 16,770 linear feet of aging 4-inch and 6-inch asbestos cement pipes that are at or near the end of their service life.
Engineer Estimates: HLA Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc. have been the Town's engineers since 2006 and have estimated the project costing around $6,000,000 to complete. They have split the project into four quadrants to allow flexibility in implementing these improvements.
Estimated Timeline: Secure Funding in April of 2026 > Begin Design in May of 2026 > Start Construction in April of 2027 > Finish Construction in May of 2028. Expected results are 16,770 linear feet of 8-inch diameter drinking water pipe installed, tested and serving our 576 residents.
Funding Requests: As of April 1, 2024 the Town has completed three funding requests in hopes of getting some financial assistance. 1) Representative Kim Schrier's FY25 Community Project Funding Request, 2) Senator Maria Cantwell's FY25 Congressionally Directed Spending Request and 3) Senator Patty Murray's FY25 Congressionally Directed Spending Request.
